This 1962 Land Rover 88 Series IIA station wagon was acquired by the seller in 2002 following a body-off refurbishment that included refinishing the exterior in beige and an overhaul to the 2.25-liter inline-four. Equipment consists of a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case, along with a Tropical Roof with alpine windows, inward-facing rear jump seats, driving lights, and a hood-mounted spare tire. Service since 2020 included replacement of the battery, clutch master cylinder, front floor mats, and fuel sending unit.
During the refurbishment that was performed during prior ownership, the bodywork was removed from the frame and subsequently refinished in beige. Features include a vented Tropical Roof designed to function as a sun reflector and allow fresh air to circulate in the cabin, and additional equipment includes sliding front windows, fender-mounted mirrors, driving lights, and steel bumpers. Land Rover-branded rear mud flaps were installed in September 2009, at which time the front fender was repainted to correct scratches.
Body-color 16″ steel wheels are mounted with 225/75 Michelin LTX M/S tires, with a matching wheel and tire affixed to the hood. Work in May 2015 included service of the braking system, which included replacement of the pads, drums, wheel cylinders, spindle sleeves, axle seals, and steel and rubber lines.
The interior features three individual front seats upholstered in black vinyl, and the matching door upholstery was resecured in July 2021. Additional equipment includes dashboard vents, black Exmoor Trim rubber floor mats, a Sony cassette stereo, and inward-facing jump seats located in the cargo area.
Centrally mounted Smiths instrumentation consists of a 75-mph speedometer and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer was reset during the refurbishment and now shows 4k miles, approximately 1k of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown. The horn wiring was repaired in July 2021.
The 2.25-liter inline-four was reportedly overhauled during the refurbishment, and power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The clutch master cylinder was replaced in 2019, the battery was replaced in May 2021, and the fuel-sending unit was replaced in July 2021.
